Bruce,
IS there such a thing as an across-the-board font
installation in Linux? Or, even an across-the-KDE
or an across-the-Gnome font installation?
Or are they all like the StarOffice font handling,
which (as you suggest) works fine for StarOffice
use, but seems to be invisible to other apps on the
desktop?
What, by the way, was the procedure you alluded to?
Is there a useful Info or HowTo? Did you happen to
write up your homegrown procedure?

PS: I'm learning more about RPM, so it turns out
that it can be almost as "friendly" as Debian
package handling.
