Hi Anila

You may also find this link interesting, concerning the use of "their"
instead of him or her:
http://www.crossmyt.com/hc/linghebr/austheir.html
I believe I learned about this link from a Techwr-l posting.

As for "avail" - I think Maggie Secara has already given an example which
(to me) sounds much, much better - the word "use" instead of "avail":

". . .Or: Everyone who wants to use the facility must bring an ID card.
(I'm going to asssume the reader knows to bring his/herr own card, not some
random iID.)
or
If you want to use the facility, please bring your I.D. card.

Second person/present tense/active voice . . ."

regards, Karen Mardahl
