TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Time for the next family move and I'm wondering where my career prospects
will fit in (other than becoming a househusband). There is a very strong
possibility that I may have to follow my significant other to Moscow at the
end of next year for a three-year posting. I'd like to know if any of you
have any info on the tech writing possibilities available (obviously I'm not
asking to get the crystal ball out here). Although I pick up languages
quickly and am beginning lessons, I don't speak Russian yet.
I've been working in software documentation for the last two years and think
it would be a shame to go back to teaching English just because it's the
only thing available. I was so happy when I finally got out of it. TEFL work
is white slavery in my book and I'd rather coax info out of programmers with
a well-placed pain au raisin any day!
I appreciate any insights you may have to offer.
Harry
