Steve Lefevers wants to buy and learn FrameMaker and wants to know what types of documents he should write.
<<In the real business world, what type of documents do Tech Writers create with Adobe Framemaker? What type of Documents should I practice creating?>>
Complex documents. The get especially more complex when you start using conditional text, variables, and cross-references.
<<Also are there any major differences between the older Version 5.5.5 of Framemaker and the newest Version 6.0 - or are they basically the same and work the same way?>>
There is no significant difference, except 6.0 adds some nice book level features.
I would recommend, as John Posada did, getting the Adobe FrameMaker Classroom in a Book. It covers the basics of the application. Granted you won't be developing rock solid templates when you're finished, but you'll be able to do many of the things you'll need (and an employer would expect you to be able) to do to produce documents.
I would also recommend the Framers (www.frameusers.com) and Adobe user-to-user (www.adobe.com) mailing lists.
