TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Sorry to belabor this, and I share everyone's disdain for the
dilettante, but rest assured that the vo-tech students who take the
technical writing course are not wannabe tech writers any more than the
students who take a typical freshman composition course are aspiring
journalists. I do think that the person proposing the course may need to
take a more realistic view of their needs--no online help, but plenty of
practice writing memos and instructions, perhaps.
<||>
<||>What kicked off the thought, though, was these same wannabe
<||>techwriters
<||>expecting you to not only teach them about TW tools and
<||>methods, but how to
<||>spell, punctuate, and in fact write a simple declarative
<||>sentence. What a
<||>world. :-)

opinion is that they don't stifle enough of them." --Flannery O'Connor
