There was, maybe still is a standard Word template that uses this feature.
Have a look at the templates and copy the style.I don't have all styles
loaded at home.
I think it may insert a table in a position in the margin. This then doesn't
leave a space on the right and you can have text to the right of it.
You have to type the text in the normal place with body text. Then apply
the style and it jumps into the margin. It was something then people not
familiar with Word styles could neve grasp
