RE: offline courtesy among list members
okay,
now i feel like a cad. i've gotten some very good advice from this list and
always thought that specific responses were not wanted.
Personally, I use this 4-step 'rule'.
1. I don't send thank-you responses to the list, unless I have additional information to add to the topic.
2. If someone makes a general offer to all 4000+ people on the list, and I respond to the offer, I don't usually don't send personal thanks.
3. If I ask for something, and someone sends it, I send thanks privately. Exception: If manymany people reply on-list or privately, I may do a general thank-you message to the list. This is rare.
4. If someone responds privately to one of my posts, with anything more than a one-line 'me, too', I'll usually reply. Usually /= always. It depends on the specific content, my stress level, and my daily horoscope.
Horoscopes for Thursday December 20, 2001
Taurus: Mercury-ruled speed is apparent today. Matters
you found difficult can be cleared away with dispatch,
and the number of small details you can
get out of the way gives you a sense of satisfaction.
Today, your chances of a reply are pretty good <g>
