TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
When I read all your postings, I am always concerned with how very much I
have to learn.
Tools
I want to take the FrameMaker A.C.E. exam late 2002. I've practically
forgotten the advanced features and necessary workarounds you know when you
use Word frequently. I do know ForeHelp; I'm determined to find the time
somehow at home to learn RoboHelp better (we don't use it here). I just got
Photoshop 6 (give thanks!). Someone directed me to a free course on Barnes &
Noble university. I need to pick up some Access because we use it somewhat.
PDFs (better thanks to you all).
Technical Writer know-how to's
I've forgotten my HTML pretty much. What about CSSs? What about XML? Single
sourcing? graphics & design - doing better thanks to this list, and classes
are planned.
Technology
Endless
Things to do
I've written about these: directory structure, file naming conventions,
style guide (coming along nicely), templates (got a nice Frame one), need a
Word one (oppps - Word knowledge lost in my mind somewhere).
Day to day work
you know how it is: it comes up; you do it.
I really don't understand the advanced postings you send.
How do you all do and learn it all?
