I'm not sure what that has to do with the subject; if the tone is due to the editor or publisher, that doesn't change the point - it just places it at one remove.
However, it's not very likely that an editor would set the tone, or think that sounding definitive is good for sales. I've seen some Dummy books that take real life complexity into account, so I don't think that sounding definitive has any broader appeal. And, as some comments on this subject show, the definitive tone makes at least some people less impressed with the book.
