Molly:

Get industry-specific. Consider migrating into the NEW new economy, and
spin a tech writing resume with any of the following sectors and
industries in mind:

Biotech
Defense
Industrial Security
Law Enforcement
Emergency Services
Customs and Immigration
International Finance

These all have their own listservs and SIG's that you can network.

I was heavily geared toward software documentation when the tech stocks
tanked and 9/11 hit, but I ended up landing (through a friend of a
friend) a position with an Air Force contractor doc'ing treaty
verification systems. It certainly isn't as sexy as software, and I want
to get back into high-tech eventually. But there is some consolation in
the fact that this gig pays better than software documentation in the
current central Florida market (as far as I can determine).
