Oh, Dick. I so have to disagree with you. There is such a thing as a
dysfunctional group and a dysfunctional company. In most every job I've
worked I would've said less than 10%. On this one? 0%. But on the last
one? Well over 75%. I started smiling more the day after I got laid off!
I'm still waiting for my current developers to bite my head off. You
know what? They're polite and professional. It's terrific.
While it's always good to do what you suggest and question one's own
contribution to a situation, it's also true that one can only ever
control oneself. I think that if, after careful self-examination and
objective analysis, one comes to the conclusion that yes, that
developer/client/manager really is a jerk, *then* one's maturity and
professionalism kick in and determine how one *deals* with the
situation.
Lisa
(who admittedly may be taking Dick's answer a bit personally because of
that last job--ugh!)

>So the answer that any individual gives is most likely a reflection of
that person's outlook/maturity/coping skills, rather than a reflection
of being in a particularly trying environment.
.....
But surely that's because I've grown up. Not because coworkers have
grown less difficult.
