TRMOAS! I (as doc mgr) was chatting with my boss (vp eng) late
one afternoon as he was shoving papers in his briefcase getting
ready to go home. He smiled at me and said, "I play this game
with myself. I stuff all these papers in my briefcase and pretend
I'm going to work on them at home!"
"I do that too," I said, "but I do you one better! I also shove
home stuff into my briefcase in the morning and pretend I'm going
to work on it at work."
He looked up at me and replied, "You're sick, Sue!"
;-)
Career paths??? Doc manager is one, usability specialist is another,
user interface designer a third -- those last two logical and natural
extensions of TW skills. Then there's becoming more technical and
specializing in API documentation, telecommunications, networking...
Adding technical skills can seriously bump up that paycheck. Some
writers start their own companies and become CEOs. "Where do you
want to go today?" ;-)
But, as many have said, there's nothing wrong with just wanting to
be a writer and staying there.
