I set up space above amounts for heading levels only and use only space
below for body tags/styles. For example:
Head 1 (12pt above, 3pt below)
body (0pt above, 12pt below)
Head2 (6pt above, 3pt below)
I also avoid having 2 headings together. If there is no need for text
between 2 headings, I seriously look at whether the highest heading is
required. Usually it is redundant.
