Re: Does Dungeons and Dragons make technical writers?
Hi,
The discussion about public speaking training reminded me of another
activity of my youth which may have contributed to my interest in
technical writing: playing Dungeons and Dragons (D&D).
Never played D&D much, but I spent many hours (and wrecked my marks in Grade 12) playing two closely related games--"Chivalry and Sorcery" and "Traveller".
One of the things both games taught me to do was work through a sequence of steps in a logical way and put them down on paper, a skill that has served me very well in both procedure writing and programming.
