mmmmmmmm, gaming.....<drool>
Wow, this brings back some serious memories. Yep, I played roleplaying games. I also got into miniature combat a little, but those miniatures can get pretty expensive. Let's see, my favorites: Shadowrun (D&D meets science fiction), Vampire (Anne Rice-ish) and Deadlands (Wild Wild West meets Edgar Allan Poe). A friend of mine picked up some of the books for D&D 3rd Edition as Xmas presents last year, but I haven't even gotten a chance to read them. Wife, baby, stepdaughter, writing, eating, sleeping. They've all gotten in the way. :)
But, to get back on track, I think a better question to ask is, "Are technical writers the kinds of people predisposed to be drawn into something like gaming?" It all comes down to personality I think, and what degree you decided to get when you were in college (Hey, liberal arts sounds greats. I'll be able to land a job with that philosophy degree right away!!!) While I was in college, a friend of mine showed me a list of traits that your typical linguist had. It was dead-on accurate. I wonder if there's the same thing for technical writers......Maybe we could compile one. :)
