Not all...not even most, except if you are going for a position that
is regulated by the SEC...and if they do, they are required to have
you sign a form giving them permission.
How you make sure you know they are doing this? For them to run a
legit credit check, they need your SSN. If they ask for the SSN, ask
them what it is being used for.
