TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Most of the tech writing jobs I have done have been as a lone writer, often
with no reviews of the work (just write it and send it out...). At one
position, I was writing a help file for nurses that included very basic
computer instructions. To illustrate a drop-down list, I used a list of
names which included myself, my husband, Elvis Presley, and Joseph and Emma
Smith as patients in a nursing home. I just hope someone enjoyed knowing
that Elvis is still alive and in a nursing home somewhere!
Diane Evans, now a very lonely tech writer.
