_some-text_ = hyperlink to technical info
<insert prelude>
Procedure
1. _Chuck_ a _you-bewdy_.
2. _Flimbotz_ the _jimjammer_.
3. _Verb_ the _noun_, _hard_.
Advanced users just chuck a you-bewdy, flimbotz the jimjammers merrily and
verb the noun without a second thought.
The novice user clicks on chucking, to work it out, then identifies the
you-bwedy, takes not of any special instructions, then chucks it before
proceeding.
Sometimes the whole step is a hyperlink to the instructions for just that
one step. It is very popular amongst user bases with highly variable general
skill sets. Advanced users get the info they need quickly and blitz through,
without sacrificing the mind-numbing details that juniors require.

Comment to Ed Manley: Ed, I like your vision of a layered online
documentation system with user documentation at the top level and then
readers can drill down to more technical information. I would be very
interested to hear how you proceed on this.
