Subject:A Note on Styles in Word From:Edwyn Kumar <bastion -at- telus -dot- net> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Tue, 29 Jan 2002 19:02:56 -0800
There isn't always a need to place style sheets and formatting in Word
documents, especially if they are being exported to Quark or another layout
program. The styles don't always transfer when you import the text, so a lot
of the time spent making the Word doc look pretty is wasted effort.
Personally, when I edit manuscripts, I use labels and headers instead,
marked like so: <<label>>
That way, when I get the text into Quark, I can tell whether it is supposed
to be formatted to a specific style during the finishing stages.
----------------
Example:
<<A>> A Note on Styles in Word
<<p>> There isn't always a need to place style sheets and formatting in
Word documents, especially if they are being exported to Quark or another
layout program.
----------------
In Quark, I automatically know that the <<A>> label is a subject header and
that the <<p>> label is paragraph text. Later, I do a string search and
remove any formatting labels and I have a complete document.
Just some food for thought.
Cheers,
