Sanjay,
Thanks for asking for additional info. At this point they don't have the
expertise on staff to write javascript (and I don't have it myself yet), and
don't really want to license a HAT to attempt this on their own... Obviously
we'd prefer they not, because they'd end up altering the system we
delivered.
As far as I know, they are more concerned about linking these files (most
likely policies and procedures type information) to the application's help
system, than the format that these files would appear to their users. A sort
of "one stop shopping" approach. It's likely that these files would be PDF,
Word or Excel. I know you can create external links, I just don't know if
you can do this after the help system is generated and the application is
installed. This is the first request from one of our clients of this type,
but I don't think it's going to be the last!
Any further ideas would be greatly appreciated!

That's a pretty big question. Does the company in question have any hooks
to link to the existing WebHelp? If so, why not get them to write those
hooks using javascript or something else akin to it to link to the source
files in question. Do they want the help files to be in WebHelp format as
well? Are they going to compile a WebHelp output along with the existing
WebHelp output?

Subject: [HATT] Linking client files to web help
Cross-posted to TECHWR-L and HATT:
One of our client companies has asked us about linking some of their
existing files to our help files. This is an xml/xslt application deployed
over an intranet (developed in Visual Interdev). The help system is Web
Help (created in RH 9.2). We would like to avoid providing source files and
having them alter the existing system, but I don't know what format the
files will be in. My question is, is it possible to create a script that
would execute on installation of the application, that would allow external
files to be linked to help system after it is generated? If not, are there
any alternatives besides giving them source files?
Thanks in advance for any insight!
