<If the examples are actually dangling modifiers, you should eliminate them.
However, it's possible that your VP is overgeneralizing a rule and
identifying legitimate subordinate clauses for dangling modifiers. Could you
provide some examples?>
No, I'd say they are all pretty direct violations of the rule - examples:
"Your home page opens, displaying the courses you are teaching and the
courses your are registered for."
CORRECT: Your home page opens, displaying the courses you are teaching and
for which you are registered." (okay, would need to re-work this one)
"Each class has an Agenda that you can add course materials to."
CORRECT: Each class has an Agenda to which you can add course materials."
(awkward)
"Find the course that you want to add an assistant instructor to."
CORRECT: Find the course to which you want to add an assistant instructor.
(again, a bit awkward)
Anyway, maybe I have just been working as a team of "1" for too long and
need someone to call me to task on these issues. I used to be an absolute
grammar-hound when I worked with a bunch of writers and we all edited each
other's drafts. I miss those days. :(
