Actually, I'm a tech writer who's a dilettante novelist...
Note: During my recent job search, I included for the first time a "personal interests" section on my resume. (I know the merits and demerits of doing this, I was really just looking for a way to stand out from the crowd.) I included my involvement with a couple of local writing organizations. I also included the fact that I have a pilot's license. Guess which item got more comments during my interviews? I certainly didn't get any negative feedback from interviewers, although I suppose anyone predisposed to belittle "creative writers" wouldn't bother to interview me in the first place. Now, on this side of a terrific job offer, I can't get too uptight about that.
