MySQL
by Paul DuBois, Michael Widenius
ISBN: 0735709211
It is a useful book that reads easily. It covers basics from database design
issues to Perl and PHP mySQL APIs. The thing that is nicer about this than
access is that you get some exposure to client/server databases, SQL
qeuries, etc. I think the knowledge ports well to other systems (though I
could be wrong). It won't make you an expert, but it will give you a decent
footing.
Plus mySQL is free, and you can do all of the sample projects/excercizes
they discuss in the book.
