I have never said process is "evil incarnate".
Obsession over process is wasteful. And many people who think they are doing
things "correctly" are in reality obsessing over the process when they should
be obsessing over the results.
And there is big difference between documenting "how you work" vs. "why you do
this." My understanding of KM systems is they attempt to capture the ethereal
knowledge of a team...the why things are done a certain way. That's different
from documenting every mundane task and process.
Any decent professional should document their reasons for doing things as a
matter of practice. Especially ego-aggrandized consultants who are at the mercy
of customer expectations.
I think where consultants have troubles is when they assume their methods and
procedures are "universally accepted" and therefore their clients should, by
default, accept them as "the way it is."
