Since it was my response to Kelly that kicked this off...
I have no problem with swearing...I do it alot. I sometimes toss in a
word at work in a small, known group, though never that word...it
still DOES seriously offend some.
My whole problem centers around two iussues.
1) My company does active filtering and offenders are logged. You'd
be surprised at what they include in their hit list. I was doing a
search on the music group Blue Oyster Cult. I was blocked form a
number of sites becuase of the word "cult".
2) Emails never go away. They become available from a bazillion
search engines. I'm a contractor...if I interview, I anticipate that
they'll do a search on my name and I don't want that launguage
associated to me.
I'm not a prude and lord know, many on this list know I get VERY
passionate on some issues.
My ding to Kelly was one sentence. I objected more when she edited
the text that appeared in the quote section of her response to me. it
made it appear that I used the word in my email, which i did not.
