Some points relevant to any conference from a former STC Conference manager:
* Susan's figures calculate gross income for the conference. They do not
calculate expenses, which are significant.
* If the STC - or any other society, for that matter - does manage to do
better than break even on a conference, the profit goes to fund other
worthwhile activities that benefit members but do not generate revenue.
* Society membership and attendance at/participation in any conference is
still voluntary. Some people find it worthwhile, others don't. If it's not
your cup of tea, don't complain about the price.
