TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I used to be a lot more active on this list.
Starting about three years ago I slowly
reduced the number of public postings and
increased the number of private postings
that I made.
Most of my recent posts have been questions
rather than answers. I like getting feedback
on an idea or technical issue; it's a helluva
lot easier to receive than it is to give.
I sometimes contribute to the list if a
discussion of a technical topic (in which I
have some knowledge) starts to go astray, or
if misinformation is posted to the list.
More importantly, perhaps, I feel that I need
to be more exacting about composing public
posts to this list. Writing and reviewing a
public post can be a time-consuming process.
I prefer private messages because I feel that
I can be more relaxed about what I write and
how I write it.
Thanks for starting such an interesting
discussion, Keith.
Cheers,
Rowena

# Don't want my name/address getting out
# Don't want my company to see my post
# Don't want a bunch of people writing to me
# Don't feel qualified
# Scared of a particular List member
# What's the point?
