I feel like I am once again in the wrong profession
Subject:I feel like I am once again in the wrong profession From:"Curtis Brautigam" <bunnies -at- cvns -dot- net> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Fri, 12 Apr 2002 12:44:32 -0400
After working for a little over two years for a company that was one of my
best work environments, I became another casuality of the recession, and I
was laid off on March 7. I have been pounding the digital pavement now for a
little over a month with only two interviews and no jobs to show. It seems
that there are fewer TW jobs out there and more people applying for them. I
am finding that the job situation in the Northeastern United States is
pretty grim, even in places like the Route 128 corridor, where only a few
years back, there were tons of TW jobs out there. Can people on this list
provide me with information about the true state of the TW job market, on
the list or off the list? I just feel like I am once again in the wrong
profession, facing another excessively tight job market. I was laid off from
my academic job in 1995 and went into technical writing to escape one tight
job market, and now that I am laid off from this job, I am finding another
tight job market.
I would appreciate any leads, particularly in the following areas:
Pennsylvania (preferably Harrisburg, York, Lancaster, Philadelphia,
Pittsburgh), Metro DC area, Baltimore, Central or Southern New Jersey, or
Southwestern Ohio. I have perused all the relevant Web sites (Monster, Dice,
Washington Jobs, Employment911, etc.), but it seems like the full-time
offerings are few and far between. I have looked at all the job Web sites;
if anybody knows of companies that are looking for technical writers, or if
you are working for a company that is looking for technical writers, please
let me know off the list.
