The best advice I ever heard came from someone on this list: read a
cookbook. A cookbook is the original technical document. A good recipe
starts with the ingredients and needed equipment, then goes through the
procedure one step at a time. Often, there are pictures of complicated
steps. The wording is very precise and always the same (a teaspoon means
the same amount, no matter what the recipe). And, the outcome is clearly
stated (Yield: 24 cookies).
