You're absolutely right on this.
By and large, I find this is a great group filled with helpful people--a
good place to come when I have a question. And once in a while, perhaps
I can help someone else out.
At the same time, I've seen some of the other things you alluded to
earlier in your post, like a snarky e-mail on something I said in this
list.
In terms of invective, this group is really pretty tame compared to some
of the *.general groups that are out there. In one of these groups
where I am a regular contributor, it is not uncommon for flame wars to
erupt, with the discussion reduced to an outpouring of verbal diarrhea
where winner (if there is such a thing) takes all.
