It's generally a good idea to save often with Word, and once in a while,
save your work under a different file name or copy the file to a different
folder, just in case you save something unexpected by accident (unless
you're willing to check your entire document before every save) or you
overwrite a file by accident. This idea has pulled me out of a few scrapes
with Word. I also make a point of saving copies to a different server--one
that is backed up regularly.

Another quick tip to help your application and system stability: Get in the
habit of opening your documents from within Word rather than opening them
from Windows Explorer. Opening docs from Windows Explorer spawns a bunch of
resource-sucking processes that don't terminate as they should, eventually
degrading stability.

Yes, I open docs from Windows Explorer a fair bit, but I also make a point
of closing and opening Word several times throughout the day, as well as
rebooting my machine periodically (not just for this reason--I find that
CorelDRAW sends the system into downward spiral, even after the application
has been closed).

Hmmm, I hear thunder and heavy rain. Time to renew my friendship with
CTRL-s.

Cheers ... Kim

More evidence that Microsoft is vindictive:
Just see if Word's Autocorrect doesn't want an "I" for an "i" ...
