Hi from the digest:
I'm trying to put together something on this--will post when it's done.
In short, there is more going on than just file types, there are Acrobat
strengths and weaknesses to deal with. However, when it comes to GIF,
TIFF, BMP, and PNG, there is no difference when it comes to clarity,
screen display, or printability. If you see a difference, something is
broken in your workflow. As for PageMaker having trouble with paletted
colors, really? I don't use PageMaker often, but was unaware of any
issue. If that be the case, by all means stay clear of GIFs, but the
other formats should serve you well.
Cheers,
Sean

Bullshoy. No difference between GIF, TIF, BMP, or any
other bitmapped image type when it comes to clarity,
screen display, or printability. It all has to do with
color indexing and the available size and complexity
of the available index. That's it.
Please elaborate. IMEO, there's nothing better or
worse when comparing GIFs and TIFs, other than color
depth, especially when regarding screen shots.> >
