TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Ha, I was wondering where the name Anthrobytes came from (love it!). I have
an anthro degree too. I took a curriculum development course last year and
at one point the instructor asked the class what we thought was the most
valuable degree a person could have. We got the usual expected answers;
medicine, law, education, etc. The instructor, who is the most enlightened
and intelligent person I have ever met said "no, anthropology" and he went
on to explain why. I think it was the first time I ever heard anyone other
than an anthro prof. or student say anything positive about an anthro
degree.
I have worked in the museum field, have been a police officer, and for the
past 8 years a technical writer. My training in anthropology has been
immensely valuable in each of those careers. I wouldn't trade it for
anything; in fact, I think I will go back for more.
