Perl. In many ways. I think it's the most fiendishly useful scripting
language ever created.

I've used it for pulling information out of ascii dumps of a report, for
creating a "rough draft" of information (text-only) from many other files.
The biggest help it gives me, though, is in creating html files from text
that comes form many sources. I can set up a a perl script to take defined
portions of an input file, wrap it in the proper html and within seconds be
99% of the way from a raw text report file to a good web page.

If you find yourself manipulating text files repeatedly, I haven't found a
better way to automate the process.

Have fun,
