S Ryan posts a poem and asks:

>Being an inveterate pen person, I was pleased by this.
>The question is: Are all writers pen people? Or mechanical pencil people?

I've never used a mechanical pencil in my life. (Well, that's an
exaggeration. But never routinely, not even back when I was learning how to
write.) I've used plain wood pencils, of course. I remember the small
pleasure of a freshly-sharpened pencil.

I learned to type when I was 12, and now type far more often (and more) than
I write. But I'd say I'm definitely a pen person: there's nothing quite like
that magic moment of beginning on a blank page with a good pen. I've never
got attached to individual pens, though: I lose them too often. They just
go.

Jane Carnall
The writers all stand around a cauldron chanting and occasionally tossing in
a small mechanical pencil. Unless stated otherwise, these opinions are mine,
and mine alone. Apologies for the long additional sig: it is added
automatically and outwith my control.
