It depends on what I am doing.
I prefer pens for everything but the crossword, mathematical equations and
drawing.

I use any pen I can find - from brush-tips to bics. My favorites are
free-flowing ink pens (fountain pens as well as roller balls).

Two pens I truly cherish are a fountain pen called "Space Age" that works
with small refillable cartridges and a Schaffer ball-point pen with a wide
body. The latter was my gift for working five years at Matrox.

My notes at work tend to be mostly blue with a bit of red.
Any notes I make at home for other projects tend to be a riot of color
(green, purple, reds, oranges, ...). I tend to change color every time I
change ideas. I'm not keen on black pens (or inks), and believe red pens
really should just be for highlighting.

I learned penmanship in grade school. I have passable writing, but not
everyone can read it, so I won't call it great. I learned typing in college
as a survival skill and have no problem deciphering my own notes - which are
often written in an abbreviated form of English. I can't do short hand, but
I've always wanted to learn.

I love the printed word - whether it's handwritten or typed doesn't seem to
matter. I'm a voracious reader and I'm working towards being a voracious
writer. :)
