A programmer friend of mine says that one of his
favorite questions to ask in an interview is "What
do you do when you have a bug in your code that you
just can't seem to solve?"
The eager-beaver interviewees will usually give what
they perceive to be the answer he's looking for: "I'd
work 24 hours a day until I fixed it, sir." The answer
he's really looking for, though, is "I'd go down the hall
and ask a couple of other people if they'd ever seen
something like it."
