Subject:Bringing up DOS From:"Janet Valade" <jvalade1 -at- san -dot- rr -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Fri, 17 May 2002 09:23:42 -0700
This is another question raised by the guy who is translating some of my
writing into French.
I have the following text:
Choose Start->Programs->MS-DOS Prompt
His comment is:
"MS-DOS prompt" is not a Windows command. The correct command is
"dosprmpt".
I responded with:
In Windows 98, as it is intalled on my computer, the menu item is "MS-DOS
Prompt". I also checked Windows 2000, which I have now but didn't have when
I wrote this, and the menu item is different. It is
Start->Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt.
He responded:
You told me : "In Windows 98, as it is intalled on my computer, the menu
item is "MS-DOS Prompt"."
If it's true, this installation is not a regular one. On the standard
Windows desktop, there is no MS-DOS icon. No more in the Start menu. So,
the only standard way to open a MS-DOS window is to type "dosprmpt" in
the box which opens when you select the Start menu entry labelled
(in french) Exécuter (I do'nt know its name in the english Windows).
Does anyone know why we seem to be seeing different things?
Janet
