Subject:Multi Chaps in Word ... then PDF From:Mary Jo David <MaryJo -at- writeawayent -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Mon, 20 May 2002 13:49:06 -0400
I've done lots of multi-chapter guides using Word, but I've always
relied on the "old" method of creating separate chapters, each in its
own file and then creating a "master" file using RD and TOC field codes
to generate a Table of Contents for the whole manual. It always seemed
like the newer "master doc" methods were unreliable and unpredictable,
so I stuck with this older method. Aside from idiosyncracies like not
supporting long file names or spaces in the file names, this older
method has continued to work for me.
But now I'm wondering, what's going to happen when I have to create a
.pdf of the manual to post on a website. I've used Acrobat to distill
manuals that were all in one file, but not across multiple files. Have
I hit the end of the road for being able to make do with Word's RD and
TOC "master" capability?
