? Auto-numbering.
Some good workarounds have been posted, but that is one feature that is
definitely broken in its current state.
Most of the other complaints listed in previous responses to this post are
not bugs, but *settings*, which can be changed by selecting Tools,
Options, and going through each tab. Spend 30 minutes with Woody
Leonhard's "Word 97 Annoyances" or some other decent Word-oriented book
and the rest of those problems will go away, IME.
For the most part, Word ain't broke, it's just doing you favors you never
asked it to do. It is possible to get Word to stop being so "helpful," but
you need to take a moment to do so. It's time well spent, believe me!
