Someone already mentioned "assumed formatting". I characterize this as
old-fashioned "Soviet-style" behaviour. The "authorities" - in this case the
Word programmers - know what you need better than you know yourself! This
may be helpful for some casual or routine users, but I find it highly
frustrating for more professional use.
Autonumbering has also been mentioned as a problem. I would add page and
section break behaviour as well. I also suspect that the degree to which MS
Office products are closely integrated into the Windows operating system is
the source of many difficulties.
