Investigate a SCSI to USB adapter. A google search for "SCSI to USB" came up with about 2,590 hits showing devices from Belkin, Microtech and other respected cable makers, plus good information on the pros and cons of using such an adapter. The price for a SCSI to USB adapter seems to be in the $79 US range so that would be a significant additional cost.
You could also try making the argument that if the IT department requires certain equipment that costs double the price of comparable equipment they should be making up the budgetary difference. After all you NEED the equipment to do your job, they simply WANT a simple SMS solution.
I talked to the IT Manager again, and found I had misunderstood what he had
said. He had told me that we are going to be using a System Management
Server (SMS) to send updates via the network to the workstations. That's
where the conflict could potentially come in. Unfortunately, I clumsily
interpreted that as a network conflict. :-)
