Dick...I don't mean it as an extreme point of view. I'm not saying
that ya toss out all conventions and make it up as ya go along.
However, if I'm writing a marketing piece, I'll use language and
conventions appropriate for that audience. If I'm writing for a GenX
or Wired type of reader, I'll write using different conventions than
if I'm writing for a group of accountants or bankers. I'll write
command line UNIX programmer docs or MAN pages differently than an
online help for a novice GUI user. All of these writings conflict to
varying degree with my copy of Webster.
We're not talking ee cummings or James Joyce type of writing...just a
flavor of writing specific to a type of audience.
