The problem is if you read the comments to the stories: one needs pounds
of salt to wade through all the uninformed postings. It would be very
easy to become seriously ill-informed.

Luckily it isn't too hard to find the relatively decent posts that offer additional information and insight. It's the wonders of a post-rating system.
Sure, some bad ones slip through and good ones probably remain in obscurity. But it's a nice place to look for info, depending on what info you are looking for. It's not for everyone, because everyone has different interests.
