The British Empire, the Falklands and Gibraltar notwithstanding, shrank
around WWII. That includes India. Most Indians probably do not know
British rule, and are you implying they had access to British education
when they did?
Your comparison to North Americans, I assume you are also bundling in
the Canadians, seems flawed and prejudiced. To compare the Indian firms
you work with against the general population of North America is
probably bad. I suggest that many farmers in North America can manage a
farm better than the Indian firms you work with, but I'd hesitate to
apply that comparison against the whole subcontinent.
Moreover, it is true some U.S. firms use Indian programmers, but it has
more to do with pay rates than skill. For similar reasons, Stanley Tools
wanted to move its headquarters from the U.S. to Bermuda, the issue is
cost and not any special advantage in skill displayed by the native
peoples. So too are many products made in China and clothing made in
Asia, again, cost, not an issue with the skill of North Americans.
"Prima Donnas?" Your prejudice is showing.
You must be utterly joking! The British Empire ensured that great
portions
of the population of India was highly educated in ENGLISH. Many native
Indian firms I work with speak and write better than many North
Americans
even at a scholastic level. I like working with my Indian clients.
Your prejudice is showing. Indian programmers are good. Indian tech
writers are good.
Watch many of the North American call centers relocate there. India is
MAJOR competition for the US job market. Do not kid yourself. They are
well educated, often very world wise for a global economy. Many
companies,
including Mr. Gates, uses Indian programmers, because they are good and
not
prima donnas as we see in North America.
