ANNOUNCE: XML and Localization Seminar in Boston, MA
17 June 2002 - 8:30 am-5 pm
Presenter: Yves Savourel
Cost: $795 reduced rates available for more than 1 registration
Description
The seminar will look at XML from the localization viewpoint: as
a format to store translatable material, as well as a format localizers
can
take advantage of to improve their processes. An overview of the
basic facets of XML and its related technologies, underlining the
internationalization aspects will be included. Yves will present
guidelines to create XML vocabularies and to author XML documents
with localization in mind. He will illustrate how to implement
re-usability,localization directives, as well as various some of the
other advantages XML can offer. Localizing XML documents and
interfaces will be covered by looking at the various current
solutions, addressing some of their
implementation issues and examining how to take advantage of
interoperability to create alternate efficient processes. The
class will also delve into the different existing localization-related
formats, it will look more especially at XLIFF and how to take advantage
of
it. All parts of the seminar will be illustrated by many concrete
examples, and some hand-on exercises.

Dan took a deep breath. How he loved the smell of the STC trade show
floor.
As he made his way toward the TechSmith booth # 410, he wondered if his
feelings were akin to music-lovers who follow bands across the country -
he too relished seeing TechSmith at different venues, surveying the
distinctive stage setups and watching the various demos.
When he arrived at the booth, the parallels unfolded before him . . . The
conference attendees jostled to get a better view of the demonstrations,
as would an audience at a concert. They silently mouthed the new usage
tips like they would lyrics to a new song. They all subscribed to the
newsletter to get their monthly treat of news, feature articles and
release information. And Dan knew that they all - himself included -
wanted a chance to chat up the intelligent, personable and good-looking
staff as if they were band members that could provide them with the
latest inside info.
As he ambled away, clutching his TechSmith paraphernalia to his chest, he
thought of the parallels he'd seen but then realized - SnagIt made his
heart sing more sweetly than any song ever had.
