John Posada writes:

"I don't think we have a problem with them knowing we exist...infact,
part of the rate/credential/out of work problem that we have is
because EVERYONE knows we exist...everyone with a copy of Word....or
RoboHelp, who read the article in Redbook a couple of years ago that
said we are one of the 10 best jobs."

Or even worse, everyone thinks they can do what we do. After all, didn't they have to take a class in tech writing in college? How many of us have heard a developer or a project coordinator say something to the effect of, "I've written user manuals," and swallowed our instant impulse to say, "yeah, we talk about people like you at STC meetings."

Come to think of it, this may be the beginning of a Letterman-like list of top ten things SMEs say that give tech writers ulcers!
