TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Mubeena I Mutabanna asked for suggestions how he should approach content
management in his 8 week internship.
Some useful suggestions have been made, but without some background research
on his part he isn't going to understand all of the issues and options. A
lot has been published on the Techwr-l site, and no one has yet referred him
to our own archives.
He could certainly do worse than to search on the terms "content management"
and "knowledge management" to get flavours on how these are used in the tech
documentation world. He could also go back to 2000 and study the
debate/flame wars Andrew Plate, I and others engaged in about whether
"content management" had any real value.
There is also a lot of good stuff on the Yahoo XML-DOC and
CMS-list -at- cms-list -dot- org forums.
Good hunting,
