Just a quick interjection here. As a lone TW at a small company for several years, I was paid very well, at least according to STC's salary surveys. Now that I am at a much larger company, my salary is creeping along because of the company's stingy and very structured compensation program. But aside from my experience, I have no empirical data to make any claim about TW salaries at small and large companies. Alas, STC does not include "Size of Employer" as an item in its surveys.

By the way, your company produces some neat products, Dana. It must be fun to document them.

Regards,

Dawson

I would suspect that since lone tech writers are often working in
smaller businesses, they probably get paid less than the average.
