TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Instructional designers need to develop exercises that run the student
through real-life scenarios. This sometimes involves preparing a large
amount of material in advance.
For example, a spell-checking exercise for a word processing program could
include a designing a document file that has samples of misspelled words
designed to go with an exercise that would walk the student through each of
the various ways that spelling errors can be corrected.
The instructional designer might decide to cover, in this order: a simple
misspelling, a repeated word, a word 'misspelling' that can be ignored, and
a complex correction. The accompanying document would need to contain
misspelled words that fit these criteria, in the order they are to be
covered.
Depending on your subject matter, this can get to be fairly complex.
